Brian Spencer is native of western Pennsylvania. He grew up in Finleyville, Pa playing his youth hockey for Ringgold School District (1990-19993) and the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins (1991-1993). He won the Penguins Cup his freshman year in high school, recipient of the Tri-State Area Hockey Association Top 20 Players award and member of Team Pittsburgh competing in the Chicago Showcase. During his senior year he was drafted by the North Iowa Huskies of the USHL and the Indianapolis Ice of the International Hockey League.
Coach Spencer attended Kent State University where he played club hockey before returning home to begin his profession in the construction industry. Brian has been involved in Western PA youth hockey since 2013 starting with the Mon Valley Thunder Youth Hockey Association as a coach and board member, Coordinator of the Sidney Crosby Learn to Play program at Rostraver Ice Gardens followed by three years of coaching with the 2007 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite team.
Last season as head coach of the 2007 Steel City Ice Renegades birth year team he led the team to a successful 36-14-10 record including a championship in the Tier 1 216 Tournament Series held in Cleveland, OH.
Coach Spencer focuses on players having a strong work ethic, high compete level, individual skill development as well as being a team player.
