Vengeance Travel to Chicago USPHL Showcase, Come Home 4-0

Pittsburgh traveled to Chicago on Wednesday afternoon to prepare for four games in three days starting with the Minnesota blue Ox on Thursday. Pittsburgh struck first on a goal by August Bouveng with assists to Joar Rosengard and Lucas Kirk. The Blue Ox tied at 1-1 less than three minutes later before Michael Hertzberg would put Pittsburgh up 2-1 on the power play with assists going to Nick Erker and Jordan Rosenbaum. The score would remain that way after the first half of the game with the shots being 11-10 in the Blue Ox's favor. Pittsburgh would strike again on the power play to make it 3-1 as Jeremy Jenkins would score from Nick Ventura and Kirk. Three minutes later the Vengeance would strike again for a 4-1 lead as Justin Shepherd would score on a beautiful pass from Anthony Bates. Pittsburgh would strike again for a 5-1 lead as Bouveng would added his second of the day with assists going to Kenny White and Rosengard. Tyler Duderstadt would score to make it 6-1 Vengeance with an assist to Ventura before Minnesota would score at the buzzer to make a 6-2 final. Landon Anderson would stop 27 out of 29 in net for Pittsburgh for the victory. "One of our better all around games of the year," said Coach David Dorsey after the game.
 
             Pittsburgh would faceoff versus the Tampa Bay Juniors on Friday morning with Jacob Zab in goal for Pittsburgh. Tampa would score 34 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead before Pittsburgh would tie at 1-1 on a August Bouveng goal with an assist going to Lucas Kirk. The score would remain 1-1 after the first half with Pittsburgh out shooting Tampa 14-9. Joar Rosengard would strike a little over 4 minutes in to put Pittsburgh up 2-1 with an assist going to Bouveng. Tyler Duderstadt would score with less than 4 minutes left to put the Vengeance up 3-1 with an assist going to Michael Hertzberg. Tampa would go on the power play and with the goalie pulled they would make 3-2 but Zab would shut the door late for the a Vengeance victory. Zab would stop 22 out of 24 shots in net for the Pittsburgh victory. "We came out flat and didn't finish strong plus are puck management was very sloppy all game," said Coach Berkstresser.
 
             Pittsburgh would play a second game later in the afternoon versus the Tri City Icehawks. Pittsburgh would jump all over the Icehawks early and often for an 11-1 victory. Nate Cava would get his first career junior victory in net for Pittsburgh by stopping 15 out of 16 shots he faced.  Ian Edgar would celebrate his 18th birthday with a 3 goal and 1 assist performance and Michael Hertzberg would add a 5 point game to his resume. Anthony Purdue would score his first and second junior goals to go along with 2 assist for a four point game. Nicholas Ramm would add his first career junior goal and fellow U16 teammate Tyson Springer would add 2 assists in the game. Nick Ventura would also add a goal and 2 assists for a 3 point afternoon as Pittsburgh would fire 68 shots on net in the game. 
 
             Pittsburgh would face the Midwest Blackbirds in their final game of the Chicago showcase. Joar Rosengard would strike on the power play by tipping in a Kenny White shot for a 1-0 lead and the only goal of the first half. Pittsburgh would out shoot the Blackbirds 13-2 in the first half but could only manage one goal. Justin Shepherd would score with a little over 5 minutes remaining to make it 2-0 before the Blackbirds would strike on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1. Charlie Olsson would shut the door in net by stopping 9 out of 10 shots to give Pittsburgh the 2-1 victory. "We played a good game for the most part but came unraveled with 4 minutes to go for some reason," said Coach Dorsey after the game. "We weren't  very disciplined late and it almost cost us so hopefully we can learn from this as a group," added Dorsey.
 
 
              Pittsburgh will host the Metro Jets Development Team at Alpha Ice next Saturday and Sunday. "This is a dangerous team because they've got good goaltending, very disciplined and work hard so this will be very challenging weekend for us," said Coach Dorsey.
