In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the xTwin City Steel escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Breezy Point North Stars.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mathias Ahman\’s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
xTwin City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 25 penalty minutes.
The Steel were led by Ahman, who had one goal and one assist. Ahman scored on the power play 9:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 xTwin City. A tripping penalty on Blake Neumann had put xTwin City on the power play. Jace Childs picked up the assist.
Others who scored for xTwin City included Cory Johnson and Calvin Miska, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for xTwin City were Sam Basich, who had one and Joonas Huovinen, who had two.
Breezy Point was helped by Benji Smieja, who finished with one goal. Smieja scored on the power play 8:27 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The North Stars had taken the advantage when the Steel\’s Tyler Lodin got sent off for head contact. Chris Hjorth assisted on the tally. Blair Seitz also scored for Breezy Point. More assists for Breezy Point came via Joe Laskero, who had one.
Jackson Germaine recorded 24 saves for xTwin City. The Steel registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Breezy Point\’s Joey Bergquist stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The North Stars incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
