xGranite City uses shootout to best xTwin City, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the xGranite City Lumberjacks defeated the xTwin City Steel in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. xTwin City\’s shootout goal was scored by Mathias Ahman. xGranite City\’s other shootout goal was scored by Taylor Brown.

The Lumberjacks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. xGranite City trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by the Steel\’s Chase Myers-Beck at 3:39 in the second period. The Lumberjacks knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brown at 17:10 in the third period.

xGranite City got the win with help from a great game by Brown, who had one goal and two assists.

The Lumberjacks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game xGranite City had been spending in the box. The Lumberjacks\’ offense rang up 41 shots on xTwin City\’s net.

xGranite City also got points from Luke Richardson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. xGranite City also had goals scored by Gavin Porter and David Kenney, who each put in one. More assists for xGranite City came via Roy Grandov, David Horsmann, and Drew Otto, who contributed one a piece.

The Steel forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. xTwin City surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Steel kept xGranite City\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Wilson made 28 saves on 32 shots.

xTwin City was helped by Calvin Miska, who grabbed one goal. Miska scored 17:16 into the first period to make the score 2-1 xTwin City. Jackson Bond provided the assist. Others who scored for xTwin City included Tanner Duffney and Zach Randell, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for xTwin City were Sam Basich, who had two and Joonas Huovinen and Jace Childs, who each chipped in one.

The Lumberjacks registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Jackson Germaine recorded 36 saves for the Steel. xTwin City registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
