xCleveland beats Toledo 5-0 as Jansen gains shutout

Tyler Jansen recorded a shutout against the Toledo Cherokee as the xCleveland Jr. Lumberjacks picked up a 5-0 win.

xCleveland was sparked by Ben Lau, who tallied one goal. Lau scored 10:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xCleveland. John Michael Barlow picked up the assist.

The Jr. Lumberjacks forced Cherokee\’s goaltenders to work in net, racking up 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Aaron Callan made four stops and Nate Gay made 25.

Others who scored for xCleveland included Mike Palasics, who had two and Jared Johnson and Brendan Logan, who scored one goal each. In addition, xCleveland received assists from Nick Balavich, who had one and Tyler Dalton, Tyler Stockwell, and Matt Wipper, who each chipped in two.

Toledo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Cherokee had been spending in the box. Toledo did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cherokee average 2.5 goals per game. xCleveland was unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cherokee eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Tyler Jansen made 35 saves for the Jr. Lumberjacks on 35 shots. xCleveland totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Toledo registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Cherokee, Michael Pisanti was ejected from the game.
