The Pittsburgh Vengeance traveled to Jamestown, NY Friday night looking to rebound from the consecutive losses at the hands of the Wooster Oilers.
The game was scoreless after one period of play as both goalies put aside several quality scoring chances. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Nick Lyon goal 6:11 into the middle frame, assisted by Auston Palumbo and Cam Smith. Southern Tier drew even on the power play less than 5 minutes later, and the teams took the 1-1 tie into the third.
The Xpress scored once again with the man advantage 14 seconds into the final period to take the lead, then added an empty net goal with 40 seconds remaining to seal a 3-1 victory for the home team. Despite firing 12 third period shots at Xpress goaltender Ryan Forman, the Vengeance were unable to find an equalizer. Marcus Gloss stopped 28 out of 30 Southern Tier shots for Pittsburgh. The story of the game was special teams, as the Xpress were able to capitalize on both of their powerplay opportunities, while the Vengeance were held 0-4 on the man advantage.
"This was a very disappointing effort and quite frankly unacceptable," said Coach Dorsey.
