The U18 Vengeance team rode into Buffalo September 30th and October 1st for the opening showcase of the NJPHL season. After an up and down slate of preparation games in September, the Vengeance were unsure how they would fare – and then came home with four dominant wins behind them, outscoring opponents 42-3 along the way.
Pittsburgh opened the showcase Friday morning against Belle Tire Dearborn (MI), walking away with a resounding 12-1 victory. The Vengeance then had an afternoon tilt against North Broward Preparatory (FL) led by NHL alum Peter Worrell. Once again the Vengeance controlled the game and won handily, 11-1.
Saturday’s action was more of the same, as they finished off the Macomb Mavericks (MI) 9-1 in their morning skate before capping the tournament off with a 10-0 defeat of the Pittsburgh Selects.
The Vengeance roster littered the showcase’s points leaderboard as Nathan Mickey led the way with 7 goals. Five other Pittsburgh players helped round out the weekend’s top eight goal scorers. Forward John Parks registered 5 goals and 9 assists to lead the tournament in points. Goaltender Kaden Mahsoob posted a .961 save percentage in his three victories.
