U16 Vengeance Take Home Frank Black Cup as NJPHL Champs, U18 Falls in Final Game

The U16 and U18 Pittsburgh Vengeance teams traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana last weekend for the final showcase of the NJPHL season.

The U16 Vengeance topped the Chicago Hawks 6-2 and the Pittsburgh Predators 3-2 to earn a spot in the best-of-3 final against Jimmy John’s. The Vengeance took game one of the series by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon, but Jimmy John’s fought to stay alive and won game two 5-3 Sunday morning, setting the stage for a winner take all final game. Pittsburgh then took game three, and the Frank Black Cup awarded to the league champs, by shutting out Jimmy John’s 2-0 in the final NJPHL game of their season.

The U18 Vengeance went into the weekend undefeated in NJPHL play. Their dominance continued Saturday as they beat the Macomb Mavericks 6-2 and Pittsburgh Predators 6-5 to reach the championship round. Their first game of the final series was more of the same, defeating the Lansing Spartans 6-0. However, they were unable to close the book on the Spartans in game two, as the Vengeance suffered an excruciating double overtime 5-4 loss. Lansing rode this momentum into the deciding game of the series, defeating the Vengeance 1-0.

Congratulations to both teams on outstanding NJPHL seasons!
