For the upcoming 2014-15 season, the Vengeance will ice a Prospect U16 AAA team. The goal is to develop players in the same facility where the Jr Vengeance team practice and play home games. The U16’s will be exposed to the Jr Vengeance attitude and approach with direct ties to Coach Dorsey and his staff, providing a direct pathway to the Jr Vengeance program team and beyond.
The Pittsburgh Vengeance Prospect U16 AAA team welcomes Erik Galis as Head Coach for the 2014-2015 season. Erik has coached AAA hockey in Pittsburgh for the past seven seasons and has a reputation of strong player development and team building. Erik most recently coached the Pittsburgh Selects AAA U16 American Team which made tremendous improvements on the ice and in the rankings.
“I am excited to be joining an organization that shares my goal of player development and building on our player’s love for the game. I look forward to working with Coach Dorsey and the rest of the Vengeance staff during the upcoming season.”
Erik grew up in the Pittsburgh area playing for Baldwin High School and the original Pittsburgh Stars teams that travelled to Finland and Austria. Erik played two seasons at the University of Notre Dame, two years as player/coach at Carnegie Mellon University, and won a National Championship in the Hockey North America Adult League. Don continued his ice hockey career for two years at the State University of New York at Canton and three years at Penn State as a member of their ACHA DI team.
Following his graduation from Penn State, Don went on to coach ice hockey at his Alma Mater, Westmont Hilltop for the last 16 years where he is currently the Assistant Coach. During his tenure at Westmont he also coached with the Johnstown Jr. Chiefs in their inaugural season, two years at the Keystone State Games and for numerous youth organizations in the Johnstown area. Dave Dorsey, current Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Vengeance flagship Jr A team will serve as General Manager for the U16’s. He’ll work hand in hand with Erik and his staff to ensure that the younger U16’s are working in a cohesive manner with his Jr A squad that will provide an easier transition to the Jr level when ready (with some advancing some in-season).
Kevin Morrison will continue to handle all business affairs of both the Jr Vengeance and the Vengeance Prospects while Dave Hudnall will assist the U16’s responsible for recruitment and player development. Frank Gribbon, currently with both the Johnstown Tomahawks and Pitt University will provide Goaltending instruction and Coach Tony Valerino (member of the Vengeance staff) will be the teams Personal Trainer.
