Texas survives Dallas comeback, wins 5-4

The Dallas Jr. Stars tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Texas Jr. Brahmas held on for a 5-4 victory.

Texas took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Dallas storm back on a Jordan Schultz goal 4:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Jr. Stars\’ power play was ineffective against the Jr. Brahmas\’ penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Texas forced Dallas goalie Chance Turner to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Jr. Brahmas surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Texas averages 2.8 goals per contest. The Jr. Brahmas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Texas was helped by Conor Durkin, who registered one goal. Durkin scored 17:46 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Texas. Dixon Whitehead provided the assist. Texas also got points from Zach McPherson, who also had one goal and one assist, Ryan Dunner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Whitehead, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jon Grimm also scored for Texas. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Mykyta Sheptytsky, who had two and Paolo DiGenova, Thomas Puetz, Kurt Thiele, and Anthony Koslow, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Stars were led by Tyler Valentin, who finished with one goal and two assists. Valentin scored 15:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Others who scored for Dallas included Josig Rochon and Wyatt Gentry, who each put in one. More assists for Dallas came via Colton Schultz, Blake McIntyre, and Aaron Torres, who each chipped in one.

Quinton Reynolds rejected 20 shots on goal for the Jr. Brahmas. Texas registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Chance Turner made 29 saves for Dallas on 34 shots. The Jr. Stars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
