Sugar Land falls apart in second, loses to Dallas, 10-1

The Sugar Land Imperials was within striking distance after one period, but the Dallas Jr. Stars put the pedal down in the second en route to a 10-1 victory.

The win by Dallas clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

Jake Huspen had one goal and four assists to lead the Jr. Stars. Huspen scored 7:00 into the third period to make the score 8-1 Dallas. Cam Choate provided the assist.

Dallas\’ penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Stars gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Dallas stifled Sugar Land\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Stars\’ offense rang up 63 shots on the Imperials\’ net. Dallas\’ defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Dallas additionally got points from Brandon Salisbury, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Stephen Smith, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Alex MacInnis, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Dallas included Alex Cyrenne, who had two and Matt Zaragoza, Niko Jansen, and Jake Gevaart, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dallas were Blake McIntyre, who had three and Jon Gibson, Tommy Stock, and Corey Burns, who each chipped in one.

Sugar Land was led by Aksel Campbell, who scored the team\’s only goal. Campbell scored 11:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Yves Bader assisted on the tally.

The Jr. Stars\’ Chris Mallon stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Dallas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Colton Anderson rejected 53 shots on goal for the Imperials. Sugar Land incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Imperials, Chance Rickel was ejected from the game.
