Southern Tier uses early goal to top Cleveland, 3-1

Brandon Desrosiers gave the Southern Tier Xpress the lead in the first period, and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Southern Tier took over the lead for good with a goal by Desrosiers at 4:12 in the first period. The Xpress found themselves down a man on Victor Mccutcheon\’s high sticking. Luke Sunde provided the assist.

Southern Tier\’s Tyler Geloneck was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Geloneck certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.12 entering the contest.

The Xpress were led by Elijah Williams, who had one goal. Williams scored on the power play 10:39 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Southern Tier. Southern Tier earned a power play opportunity when Adam Schaffer was put in the box for tripping. Owen Harris picked up the assist.

The Xpress put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cleveland to score on any of its five power plays. The Jr. Lumberjacks were unable to stop Southern Tier from sending pucks towards the net, and the Xpress eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

Southern Tier also got a goal from Curtis Carlson as well. In addition, Southern Tier received assists from Justin Andriaccio and Tim Weisgerber, who contributed one each.

Cleveland\’s offense rang up 32 shots on Southern Tier\’s net.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were led by Daniel Goodwin, who scored the team\’s only goal. Goodwin scored 16:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Southern Tier. AJ Bogdan provided the assist.

The Xpress incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Alec Rounds made 45 saves for Cleveland on 48 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
