The game between the Southern Tier Xpress and the Toledo Cherokee was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Southern Tier emerged with a 5-3 win.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Cody Maulsby\’s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Jamie Collins had a great game for the Xpress, netting two goals. Collins\’ tallies came at 3:33 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Southern Tier and 19:10 into the third to make the score 5-3 Southern Tier.
Southern Tier\’s offense rang up 34 shots on Toledo\’s net. The Xpress\’ penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Cherokee\’s power play unit.
Southern Tier also got points from Luke Sunde, who also registered one goal and one assist and Maulsby, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Southern Tier also got a goal from Brandon Desrosiers as well. More assists for Southern Tier came via Justin Andriaccio, who had two and Alec Hooper, Addison Collins, Curtis Carlson, Luke Grossman, and Victor Mccutcheon, who each chipped in one.
Toledo\’s defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Cherokee average 2.1 goals allowed per game.
Toledo was helped by Aaron Roschinsky, who racked up one goal and one assist. Roschinsky scored on the power play 4:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cam Schwartz provided the assist. Toledo also had goals scored by David Bogart and Tyler Zalecki, who each put in one. In addition, Toledo received assists from Brody Duncan, who had one.
Tyler Geloneck rejected 25 shots on goal for Southern Tier. The Xpress incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Glen Bates recorded 29 saves for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
