Seems like everyone’s on OVERTIME

Like everyone else during the HOLIDAYS, the Jr Penguins have been asked to put in some overtime.

In recent weeks, both Jr Penguin teams have gotten back on track.  After a string of five losses, the Jr A Penguins have knocked off their last three opponents while posting up 12 points in the win column.  With solid performances recently, the team is finally beginning to climb in the standings.  Their number one position in the man advantage category has made a huge difference in the outcome of their games.

Their recent streak included wins over the Metro Jets, Battle Creek Revolution and just this past weekend, the reigning Champion St Louis Blues.  However, it wasn’t easy.  During their win streak, the team battled the Jets by winning one in OT while the Jr Blues took the team to a Shoot Out.

The St. Louis games were particularly entertaining as two evenly matched teams battled in every aspect of the game.  Net minding was solid and it was obvious early on that mistakes would be costly.  In their first game, The Jr Penguins battled back to bury the winning goal (Vecchio) with just 1:23 remaining.  While that was exciting, closing out the game on Sunday was even more thrilling as the Jr Penguins tied the game with just 28 ticks on the clock before eventually putting the game away in a Shoot out (Hanus).

Not to be out done by their comrades, the Jr B team has been on a streak of their own.  After dropping a pair to the Suffolk PAL team back in mid-October, the team has reeled off 10 straight including wins over Philadelphia, Brewster, the Wildcats, Apple Core and most recently in their rematch weekend against Suffolk PAL.

The Jr B’s topped off their streak with a thrilling OT victory of their own in their rematch weekend set with the Suffolk PAL team.  In this one, both teams fought for every inch they were given by their opponent, but were tied up after regulation.  Then, when the puck was dropped in OT, it was over before you knew it as Bryan Hovanec (pictured) scored the Game Winning Goal on a breakaway right off the opening face-off.

Both teams get right back at it this weekend.  The Jr A’s travel to Cincinnati to face the Queen City Steam who are right on Pittsburgh’s heals in the standings while the Jr B’s will be traveling to the Big Apple to take on Apple Core’s Young Guns.  Both games are expected to be tight battles.
