Point Mallard beats Sugar Land 6-5 after comeback scare

The Sugar Land Imperials tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Point Mallard Ducks held on for a 6-5 victory.

Point Mallard made the score 6-4 on a goal by Justin Dunn at 10:25 in the third period, and Sugar Land got as close as 6-5 when Matthew Jung scored 15:53 into the third period.

The Ducks were sparked by Dunn, who grabbed one goal and one assist.

Point Mallard surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Ducks have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Point Mallard struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Imperials to score three power play goals on five chances.

Point Mallard also got points from Jake Cox, who also had one goal and two assists, Grant Dukus, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Noah Gilreath, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jaleel Rosemond, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Justin Clark, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Jake Champaign, Matt Darnell, Davis Hudson, and Matt Goodman, who each chipped in one.

Others who scored for Sugar Land included Mason Smith, Frazer Ellis, and Ryan James, who each put in one. More assists for Sugar Land came via Matthew Winkle, Donavan Meyer, and Timothy OSullivan, who contributed one each and Aksel Campbell, John Cuni, and Frank Muscarella, who each chipped in two.

Billy Wager recorded 24 saves for the Ducks. Point Mallard incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sugar Land\’s OSullivan stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Imperials incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
