Pittsburgh Vengeance set for Home Opener

The Vengeance (Pittsburgh’s only USAH sanctioned JR A team) kick off their North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) regular season this coming weekend against Detroit’s Metro Jets at the Blade Runner Ice Complex in Harmar.

With only a couple scrimmage games in to this point, the Games this weekend will serve as the Vengeance first real test.  “We’re looking at this weekend as, ‘Let’s see how we stack up against a formidable opponent for the season,’” General Manager Kevin Morrison said. “Because we know the Division is so competitive, we’ll be working even harder to get off to a good start.”

Drop of the puck for the primetime matchup is Saturday night at 7:30 (warm-up at 7).  A second game will be played on Sunday at noon.

We’re inviting you to be in attendance as the Vengeance get under way for the new 2013 season and to help the team kick-off another exciting season.

Admission for both games this weekend is FREE (no gate).  There will be giveaways and highlighting the Saturday evening game, the Vengeance will be retiring Jersey #82 of former Captain and last season’s League MVP, Nico Vecchio.

Nico is the first player to compete on the Vengeance (former Jr Penguin) Junior program teams for six consecutive seasons culminating in a final season as the highest scoring forward in the Club’s history.

Nico played for one of the Jr Program teams from 2007 to 2013 and was the NA3HL’s MVP, Top Forward and named to the First Team All 3HL team in his final season (2012-13).  He remains the clubs all-time leader in career points and for a single season (82 in 2012-13, tied w/ Jason Angus in 2010-11).

Nico is the first player to have his # retired.  The Club will hang Nico's jersey #82 from the Blade Runners USA Arena rafters.
