Pittsburgh outlasts Flint, 4-3

 

The Pittsburgh Vengeance and the Flint Junior Generals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Pittsburgh made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

The Vengeance gained the winning advantage on a goal by Oskar Thorsen 17:04 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

 

Tom Diffendal had two goals to lead Pittsburgh to victory. Diffendal's tallies came on the power play at 16:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 4:34 into the second to make the score 2-1 Pittsburgh.

The Vengeance excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Pittsburgh's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Brooks Antill also scored for Pittsburgh. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Michael Straub, who had two and Joseph Randazzo, Gavin Cummings, Nicholas Santiago, and Chris McCambridge, who each chipped in one.

The Vengeance were unable to stop Flint from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Generals eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Flint was led by Luke Dmytro, who had one goal and one assist. Dmytro scored 12:47 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Trevor Benaglio assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Flint included Nicholas Gnagni and Ryan Burr, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Brett Leppek, who had one.

Jason Kumpfmiller recorded 34 saves for Pittsburgh. The Vengeance incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Junior Generals' Anders Franke stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Flint incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
