Pittsburgh Jr A Pens even season series with Toledo

The Pittsburgh Junior A Penguins put their season high ten game winning streak on the line at home versus a game Toledo Cherokee.  With Pittsburgh Jr A Penguins dropping games in two early season contests at Toledo, they were looking to return the favor.  While it did not start well on Saturday night when Toledo came out flying in the first period outshooting the Pens 15-4, it didn’t change their game plan. Goaltender Collin LeMay kept the Pens in it by stopping 14 out of 15.  A goal by D.J Dinnison gave the Pens a 1-1 tie after one period of play.

The Pens would add three goals in the second period and take a 4-2 lead to the third period.  The second period goals were scored by Jayson Angus, Mikael Lemieux and newcomer Alexander Gidebring. The Pens would add two more in the third as Alexander Gidebring would score his second of the game and Charles Williams would add a goal for 6-2 Pens victory.  Collin LeMay would stop 34 out of 36 shots in net to get the victory for the Penguins.

The Pens would need a victory Sunday to even the season series at two and gain an advantage on the Cherokee in the tight NA3HL standings.  The Pens would start slow out of the gates again and fall behind 1-0 after one period of play. However, they came out flying in the second period scoring 4 unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third period.

Charles Williams would add two in the second period and single tallies by Ben Hanus and Nolan Trombetta. Nolan Trombetta would bang home a Justin Selep rebound late in the third period to give the Penguins a 5-2 victory. Collin LeMay would had 17 saves in a much better team defensive performance by the Junior A Pens. ” I wish we would have come out of the gates a little better each day but I am pleased with the end results, “ said Head Coach Paul Taibi. “ We got a real solid effort out of the defensive pairing of Derek Grove and Evan Mulvihill this weekend, “ added Coach Matt Stuber.

The Junior A Penguins will take on the upstart Michigan Mountain Cats this weekend at home. “This is a team that is quietly playing very well and giving teams fits so we better come prepared to play, “ stated Coach Taibi.
