Pittsburgh Avoids Elimination, Forces Deciding Game in Waterford

After dropping Game 1 in Detroit in their best-of-three, Round 2 Playoff series against the Metro Jets, it seemed as if the Vengeance were playing on borrowed time.  Earlier in the week, Metro outlasted Pittsburgh in a see-saw game that had the two teams trading goals throughout.  However, Metro prevailed 6 to 5 in Overtime.

Game one was in the books and Pittsburgh had to fight to stay alive in the running.  With their backs to the wall, the Vengeance faced off for game two on Friday night with a strong performance in the first period.  After the teams traded punches for the first 6 minutes, the scoring fest began.  When the dust settled, Pittsburgh scored 4 in the next 10 minutes and Metro tallied two of their own to keep it close.

Although outshot heavily by the Jets in the second period, Pittsburgh’s defense met the challenge.  With neither team scoring in the second frame, Pittsburgh held onto their two-goal advantage at 4-2.

Period three was intense as the Metro Jets showed why they were the number one seed in the 3HL Eastern Division Play downs.  The Jets doubled the Vengeance in shots in the period but could only slip one goal past Pittsburgh’s net minder Brian Baker (pictured).  At the final horn, Pittsburgh survived elimination with the third and final series game set in Waterford, Detroit on Sunday morning at 11:50.
