Pittsburgh and West Michigan Trade Road Wins

Pittsburgh hosted the West Michigan Wolves for a Thursday afternoon game at the Alpha Ice Complex in a game that both teams desperately needed. Pittsburgh jumped on West Michigan early as Nick Lyon scored just over a minute into the game, assisted by Vincent Casale and James Stiles. The Vengeance added to the lead two and a half minutes later when Gavin Cummings scored on a beautiful wrist shot from the slot to put Pittsburgh up 2-0. James Unger tallied a helper on the play. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, West Michigan controlled action the rest of the way. The Wolves struck back with two late first period goals on the power play and the game was tied at 2-2 heading into the second. After a scoreless middle frame, West Michigan broke the game open, converting on a defensive break down by Pittsburgh seven minutes into the third and adding a power play goal late to take a 4-2 lead. The Wolves sealed the victory with an empty net goal, going home with a 5-2 win. Jacob Stack stopped 28 of 32 Wolves shots for Pittsburgh. The normally disciplined Vengeance recorded a season high 20 penalty minutes in the game.
