Pittsburgh travelled to Cleveland to play the Lumberjacks Friday night and jumped out to an early 1 goal lead on a Tom Diffendal power play goal. However, Cleveland would tie it at one a piece before the 1st intermission.
Cleveland would go up 3-1 after two periods on several Vengeance mistakes. The lead jumped to 4-1 early in the 3rd before Tyler Speis made it 4-2.
Cleveland would add a late goal to close out the 5-2 victory. " We had one line show up tonight (Kenny, Diffendal and Speis) and got another solid performance in goal by Jason Kumpfmiller but that was it, " said Coach Dorsey. " We are arguably the worst defensive team in the league at this point and that's a shame because we've got good goaltending, " added Dorsey.
Pittsburgh would come back home to open up a two-game home stand with Battle Creek Saturday and Sunday. The Vengeance jumped on Battle Creek early as Lukas Friberger (pictured) scored just 10 seconds into the game and Joe Randazzo would add a goal to put Pittsburgh up 2-0 after one period of play.
Friberger would strike again 37 seconds into the second period and Captain Michael Straub would add another goal to put Pittsburgh up 4-0 after two. Tom Diffendal, Thomas Lesitner and Kevin Kenny would add goals in the third to close out the game 7-0.
Tyler Geloneck backstopped 18 for the shutout. " We played a decent game until the third period and then we got away from our game, but Geloneck picked us up with a few key saves while the team fought off a 5 min major, " stated Coach Dorsey.
The final game on Sunday started a bit slower for Pittsburgh where the score remained tied at zero after the first period of play. Pittsburgh would come out and score three unanswered goals in the second by Tyler Speis, Tom Diffendal and Oskar Thorsen.
Pittsburgh added three more in the third when Lukas Friberger, Joe Randazzo and Thorsen scored to close out the game at 6-0. Chase Sanford made12 saves in goal for the second of back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. " I was pretty pleased with our team's defense today and that's the direction we need to go, " said Coach Dorsey.
Pittsburgh plays a home and away series with Cleveland this coming weekend with the home game being Saturday afternoon.
