Pens Split with 3-Time Defending Hurster Cup Champs

The Pittsburgh Junior Penguins were going to find out where they stood this weekend in the CSHL with two games against the Dubuque Thunderbirds. The Pens lost a hard fought battle on Friday night 4-2 but bounced back with a 3-1 victory on Sunday.  \” We found out a little bit about ourselves this weekend as a team and that is if we lay it out on the table we can compete with the top teams in this league.  I think after the first period of the initial game we realized the importance of playing with determination and grit.  Dubuque is a great team and well coached, so this was a huge test for our guys.  We had guys that never played in a game of this magnitude and now they know what takes to win a game like this, \” said Coach Dorsey. \”

Michael Adams was huge for us on defense, he left everything out there.  He was hitting people, blocking shots and battling like there was no tomorrow.  Mick Lemieux competed hard for us all weekend and along with Ryan Kumpfmiller set a great example of leadership for our younger players. We blocked 18 shots in Saturdays game and I cannot be more proud of everybody on the team.  This definitely was the best we played as a team all year.  Anthony Sweet came up with a huge effort in goal for us on Saturday, \” said Coach Dorsey.

The Junior A Pens go on the road next weekend for a three game swing starting with two games in Toledo and a Sunday afternoon contest with Motor City.  Updated Standings below:
