The title just about sums up the Empire Junior Penguins openning weekend at the Ice Vault in Wayne New Jersey. The festival weekend at the New Jersey Hitmen\’s home rink marked the official beginning of the Empire season.

The Penguins first game against the Green Mountain Glades Friday night was a close contest With the Pens leading 3-0 before the Glades\’ surge in the second half. The Penguins managed to hang on, winning 3-2. Saturday\’s game against the Springfield Pics found the Penguins on the other end of the same score. The Pens went 0-6 on the power play and were 0-11 after the first two games. The game against the Pics was certainly within reach but a win was not to be.

The Junior Bruins clearly showed the Penguins why they are a favorite to be at the top of the Empire standings at the end of the year. The game started out at what appeared might be a back and forth scoring fest resulting in a 2-2 tie. The Bruins scored 5 unanswered goals, several on defensive miscues to beat the the Penguins 7-3 while outshooting them 38-15. One positive from the game was that the penguins were 2 for 6 on the power play, but they ended the weekend just 2 for 17.

This weekend the empire Penguins will play two exhibition games against the RMU Colonials Club team.
