Last year, the Pittsburgh Jr Penguins had 5 players taken in the first round of the NAHL draft. Here is a look at where they are now:
1. Charles Williams– F : Selected 1st overall by Kalamazoo K-Wings.
After being drafted first overall, Charles decided on a different path. He took an offer to play for the Tier II JR A Milton IceHawks of the OJHL Canadian league. Charles ended up second on the team in scoring (first in PIMS).
2. Jayson Angus– F: Selected 5th overall by New Mexico Mustangs.
Jayson, who led the 3HL in scoring in 10-11, played in all 60 games for New Mexico this season. He ended up third on the team in scoring and recorded zero penalty minutes.
3. Nolan Trombetta– F : Selected 6th overall by the Fresno Monsters.
Nolan, a 93 birth year, detoured from Fresno and was selected to play for the Smiths Falls Bears of the Tier II Canadian Central Junior Hockey League. Nolan had an impressive rookie campaign in a league known for college placement.
4. Ben Hanus– F : Selected 7th overall by the Corpus Christi IceRays
Ben started the season in Corpus Christi and made their initial roster. After an early season injury and recovering from it, Ben ended up in the WSHL with Idaho, winning their league championship.
5. Collin Lemay– G: Selected 23rd overall by the Texas Tornado
After 2 seasons of being one of the top goalies in the 3HL, Collin endured a summer of trades to different NAHL teams. In the end, Collin settled in playing games in both the USHL for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the NAHL for the Topeka RoadRunners and is preparing for the NAHL playoffs.
So far this season, the Jr Penguins (youngest team in the 3HL) have had 2 players tendered to the NAHL, Alex Berardinelli – F (’95 – Fairbanks IceDogs) and Sean Keating – G (’94 – Corpus Christi IceRays) and are excited with the upcoming drafts of the different Tier I & II Jr Leagues in the US and Canada.
The NAHL Draft for thie year's players will be May 26th and The Jr Vengeance team will follow up with their own 3HL Draft on June 5.
