Kyle Shreve was all over the ice for the Metro Jets, as he tallied two goals in Metro\’s 8-5 win over the Southern Tier Xpress.
Shreve scored at 13:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Metro and again while on the power play 1:03 into the second to make the score 3-1 Metro.
Southern Tier was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Jets were able to score five times while on the power play.
Metro forced the Xpress\’ goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 42 shots and forcing 34 saves. Tyler Geloneck made 24 stops and Benjamin Sakaria made 10. The Jets\’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Southern Tier power plays. Metro outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Jets average 4.3 goals per contest. The defensemen of Metro were also effective in Southern Tier\’s zone, and came away with three goals. The Jets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.
Metro additionally got points from Cooper McLean, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Pearce Vance, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Tyler Layle also scored for Metro. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were David Chavis, Alex Holm, Cody Jones, Jake Sealy, and Jason Newel, who contributed one each and Andrew Sawyer, Devin Kelly, and Zach Koonce, who each chipped in two.
The Xpress were led by Luke Sunde, who registered two goals and one assist. Sunde scored the first of his two goals at 2:25 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Metro. Owen Harris assisted on the tally. Sunde\’s next tally made the score 8-4 Metro with 10:07 left in the third period. Southern Tier also got points from Curtis Carlson, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Southern Tier included Jake Wasem and Brian Grant, who scored one goal each. In addition, Southern Tier received assists from Jake Herrberg and Cody Maulsby, who contributed one each.
Jake Stephan made 23 saves for Metro on 28 shots. Southern Tier incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
