Junior A Pens go 2-2 at CSHL Showcase

The Junior A Pens went it to the CSHL Showcase with high hopes but left with a dose of reality.  The Pens swept the Peoria Mustangs by the scores of 5-2 and 5-1.  \” We played solid at times, but had too many defensive breakdowns in both games.  Matt Wregget played well in net for us in both games, but was a difference maker in the first game, \” said Coach Dorsey.  Ryan Kumpfmiller had the hat trick in the first game and added a power play goal in the second game for the Pens.

The Junior A Pens dropped both games to first place St. Louis by the scores of 4-3 and 5-2. \” We played well enough to win the first game, but they were the superior team in the second game.  Our power play and penalty kill was no match for their special teams and they are a better defensive team than us.  I felt like we were not as prepared as them and that falls back on me as the Coach.  The better team won both games and there are no excuses from us.

We will take a week off then go back to the drawing board to try to correct some of our problems, \” said Coach Dorsey. The Junior A Pens will travel to play the Cleveland Lumberjacks after the New Year\’s Holiday.  The Penguins and Lumberjacks have been jockeying back and forth in the standings all season long.  Winning two games in the upcoming series will gives either team a distinct advantage going down the stretch in February.
