Junior A Pens finish season with a three game sweep in Michigan

The Junior A Pens went on the road to Michigan for a three game set.  The Pens took on Motor City in the first game on Friday night and defeated them 12-2.  Ryan Kumpfmiller and Mikael Lemieux led the way with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) and Nick Persichetti added a goal and two assists.

The Junior A Pens then travelled to Metro to take on the Jets for a two game series.  The Pens won the first game 9-0 behind the goaltending of Anthony Sweet.  Tyler Sheppard had a hat trick plus an assist. Vinnie Somma and Todd Thomas also contributed four points in the game.

The final game of the year was on Sunday and the Pens defeated Metro 10-0 behind six power play goals.  Matt Wregget and Anthony Sweet combined on the shutout  in the nets.  Ed Barca led the way for the Pens with 3 assists and Tyler Sheppard added a pair of goals. \” We did what we had to do and that was finish strong.  We got very good goaltending in that last game from Sweet and Wregget, \” said Coach Dorsey.

The Junior A Penguins finished fourth in the CSHL and will host Toledo this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Blade Runners in Harmarville, Pa.  Friday and Saturdays games are scheduled for 7:30 pm and the game on Sunday for 1:30 pm. \” Toledo is the hottest team in the league and this is going to be a battle. They are well coached and have a lot of playoff experience.  It is the playoffs and everybody is 0-0 and what you did in the regular season means nothing now, \” added Coach Dorsey.
