The Pittsburgh Vengeance are excited to announce the addition of Mikey Guentner to the Jr. Vengeance Coaching staff for the 2014-15 season. Guentner brings 17 years of competitive playing experience to the Jr. Vengeance, including four years at Western Michigan University.
A Butler, PA native, Guentner served as the Head Coach for the Butler high school varsity squad the past two seasons. In his first season with Butler, Guentner took over a team with a 1-21 record the prior season and led them to the program’s first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) AAA playoff berth in nearly a decade. He was named the Head Coach for the PIHL’s Northeast Conference All-Star team.
The following season, the Golden Tornado won the Section-3 title and finished the regular season with the third best record in PIHL AAA, with Guentner again earning the title of PIHL all-star Head Coach. Guentner was most recently named the Head Coach for Team Pittsburgh – a showcase team, which comprises the best interscholastic hockey players in Western Pennsylvania – to compete in the 2014 America’s Showcase (formerly the Chicago Showcase).

Guentner’s coaching philosophy emphasizes player development and he has a proven track record of moving players on to higher levels of hockey. “I’m looking forward to making the jump to junior hockey and being a part of the Jr. Vengeance staff, ” said Guentner. “The Vengeance have a proud tradition of developing talented, hard-working hockey players. I plan to contribute and build upon that tradition.”
