The Pittsburgh Jr Penguins will begin their Camps the first two weeks in August. The Jr B’s will kick things off the first week with on and off-ice conditioning while the Jr A’s are slated to follow them the week of August 9.
Although the Jr B’s have been on the ice skating since mid May, the Camp will do a lot to get them game ready for the upcoming season. All Camp activities will take place at the Blade Runners Ice Complex in Harmarville.
With the Jr A’s still in the process of finalizing their roster, the Jr B squad is near full with only one opening for a goalie and a defenseman. With a much younger team last season, the Jr B Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time EVER. However, with 11 players returning from last year’s team, they are looking to make up for lost ground. With a healthy roster by numbers earlier than normal, good stock in returning players and several new prospects, this years team could find themselves in the thick of things come mid March.
For now, the team is sizing for team garb while preparing for the season through their on-ice practices. The practice and game schedules are complete and posted on the web. Through May, June and July the team skated once weekly. They will increase their practice time in Aug and move to three full ice practices per week in Sept.
The staff is excited about their new opportunities with a full roster so early in the campaign and the new prospects they’ve added. The team should be a bit smaller in size, but much faster and more experienced, especially at competing at the Jr level.
The Jr B Penguins will open up the season the weekend of September 11 & 12 at home against the Brewster Bulldogs.
