Jr A Pens split with Peoria

The Junior A Pens started out of the gate strong with a 7-3 opening night victory over the gritty Peoria Mustangs.  Charles Williams and Andrew Serpico scored two goals each to go along with single tallies from D.J Dinnison, Wyatt Pressick and Nico Vecchio.  Vecchio was awarded a penalty shot and capitalized for the Pens to put the game away.

Collin LeMay got the win in goal with an 18 save performance.  The Pens power play was 3 for 6 and was the difference in the game.

The Peoria Mustangs responded on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the Junior A Pens.  The Mustangs fought hard and capitalized on bad defensive breakdowns to steal a victory on the road.  Peoria goalie William Johnson was spectacular in goal coming up with 42 saves and was especially stingy late in the game.

Jayson Angus scored shorthanded to tie the game up for the Pens at 1-1 and later added a even strength tally to tie the score at two.  Peoria never quit and added two goals to take a 4-2 lead late in the third.  The Pens got a five minute power play with about seven minutes to go but where only able to capitalize once on a D.J Dinnison goal to cut the Peoria lead to 4-3.

Collin LeMay made 21 saves in goal to even his record at 1-1. The Pens travel to Toledo to play the Cherokees on Friday night later this week before heading north to Flint for two games against the Generals on the weekend.
