The Junior A Pens were looking to bounce back from a four game losing streak. They kicked off their road trip with a rare Friday night tilt with the Toledo Cherokee. It was a tight contest with the Pens ending up on the short end of the stick at 2-1.
Charles Williams (pictured) scored the only goal on the power play from Jayson Angus. Collin LeMay gave the Pens a shot to win with a 34 save performance in the nets. “ We took too many undisciplined selfish penalties and that cost us a chance at winning this game, “ said Coach Taibi.
The Pens dire for a win, traveled next to Waterford, MI to take on the Metro Jets for a two game series. The Pens won game one 3-2 in thrilling fashion on an overtime goal by Charles Williams.
D.J. Dinnison and Nolan Trombetta added single tallies and Collin LeMay made 23 saves in the net for the victory. “ It was a much better and disciplined effort tonight by the team, “ said Coach Taibi.
The final game of the trip was on Sunday. This one would be big for Pittsburgh because it gave them a chance to even their record going into the Thanksgiving break. The Pens came out on fire scoring five goals in the first period and adding four more in the second.
The Pens would add two more in the third and end up with a convincing 11-3 victory.
Mason Riley would make 18 saves for the victory in his first start of the year. Mike Kretz, Fredrik Eriksson and D.J Dinnison would add two goals each. Jayson Angus, Nolan Trombetta, Nico Vecchio, Charles Williams and Ben Hanus all added single tallies for the Pens.
“ We got a little bit sloppy as the game went on, but it was good effort by everybody today,” said Coach Taibi. The Junior A Pens record stands at a 11-11 heading into Thanksgiving break.
