Huge game by Newel boosts Metro over Pittsburgh, 5-2

Behind a great game by Jason Newel, who had one goal and two assists, the Metro Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Vengeance, 5-2.

Newel scored 16:01 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Metro. Jake Sealy picked up the assist. Newel dished an assist on Tyler Layle\’s goal that made the score 1-0 Metro at 12:29 into the second period. He added another helper on Andrew Sawyer\’s goal that made the score 4-0 Metro at 2:33 into the third period.

Metro stifled Pittsburgh\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jets forced the Vengeance goalie Jacob Stack to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Cody Jones also scored for Metro. More assists for Metro came via TJ Krajewski, who had two and Thomas Luzynski and Jacob Drinkard, who contributed one each.

Pittsburgh\’s defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Vengeance average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

Pittsburgh was led by Eli Lynn, who racked up one goal. Lynn scored 15:32 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Metro. Brennan Conway assisted on the tally. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Tyler Speis as well. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Nathaniel Schwartz, who had one.

Jake Stephan made 21 saves for Metro on 23 shots. The Jets totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Vengeance\’s Stack stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Pittsburgh incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
