Teammates and the entire Pittsburgh Vengeance family continue to support forward Kevin Kenny after Saturday’s 3HL game against the Cleveland Jr Lumberjacks where Kevin sustained a severe spinal cord injury just eight minutes into the game. After two surgeries, Kevin remains at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital where he’ll continue to be cared for and monitored until enough time passes to allow for a more thorough diagnosis.
As a veteran player with the Vengeance and former Jr Penguin teams since 2011, Kevin has been a leader on and off the ice and especially for his teammates this season. Well wishes have been coming in to the Vengeance on Kevin’s behalf from throughout the hockey community.
The Club is in the process of establishing a Fund for Kevin and his family. A target date has been set for November 30th for a Spaghetti Dinner (location TBD) and additional fund raising activities are being planned. Anyone interested in participating or to offer assistance can do so by contacting Renee Heininger at HeiningerRenee@gmail.com.
Kevin’s Vengeance teammates will be wearing his number 7 on their helmets for their upcoming Showcase games in Chicago beginning this week. With several Teams already making a request for these helmet stickers, the Vengeance will make the #7 helmet stickers available to other teams upon request. While there is no cost for the stickers, teams are making donations to the Kevin Kenny Fund (KENNY STRONG). To place an order for helmet stickers or if you want an address for Kevin so you can send a card with well wishes, please contact Kevin at ThePenaltyBox@comcast.net.
Additionally, there is a coordinated effort to help Kevin and his family for the long recovery that lies ahead. The Club plans to sell KENNY STRONG T-Shirts and Wristbands. For information on these items, again please contact Renee at HeiningerRenee@gmail.com.
Everyone continues to send their thoughts and prayers to Kevin and his family. Many are offering their support on Twitter at #prayersforKenny & #prayforKevin.
