Great Falls survives Helena comeback, wins 4-2

The Helena Bighorns tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Great Falls Americans held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Lucas Lomax put Great Falls up 4-0 in the second period, but Helena pulled to within two on Georgy Ostapchuk\’s tally 18:18 into the third period.

The Americans\’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Helena power plays. Great Falls kept the Bighorns\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Grant Martens made 40 saves on 44 shots.

Great Falls also had goals scored by Robert Kalata and Dylan Garton, who each put in one. In addition, Great Falls received assists from Arseny Ivanov, Hunter Garris, Erik Gatson, and Adam Apangalook, who each chipped in one and Michael Kliment and Zack Mese, who contributed two each.

Helena was held below its usual level of production. The Bighorns average 4.8 goals per game. Helena struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

Helena also got a goal from Jay Forbes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Nick Trefry and Matt Mohar, who each chipped in one.

Evan Hauser made 28 saves for the Americans on 30 shots. Great Falls incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Americans, Malachi Bushey was ejected from the game.
