Granite City’s comeback falls short, North Iowa wins 6-4

The North Iowa Bulls, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by North Iowa and clinched a 6-4 victory.

The Bulls led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when North Iowa\’s Ian Penvose\’s scored at 1:35 in the second period to put the Bulls up 4-1.

Timothy Santopoalo had a great game for North Iowa, netting two goals. Santopoalo\’s tallies came at 19:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 North Iowa and 34 seconds into the second to make the score 3-1 North Iowa.

North Iowa also got points from Ron Lindgren, who also had one goal and one assist and Richie Marenis, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Logan Murphy also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Taylor Brown, who had one, Brandon Anderson, who had four, and Matt Kroska and Conor Jonasson, who contributed two a piece.

The Granite City Lumberjacks\’ offense rang up 39 shots on the Bulls\’ net. Granite City gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Lumberjacks are averaging 2.3 goals against for the season.

Granite City was helped by Christian Mohs, who registered one goal. Mohs scored 7:28 into the third period to make the score 5-4 North Iowa. Aaron Storch assisted on the tally. Granite City additionally got points from Mitchell Gwost, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brett Love, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Granite City also got a goal from Drew Otto as well. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Roy Grandov, Hunter Schneider, Morgan Martelle, and Zac Sikich, who each chipped in one.

North Iowa\’s Chris Amsden stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Bulls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Scott Murray rejected 23 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Granite City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
