In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Granite City Lumberjacks escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Twin City Steel.
No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jared Sprink at 19:34 of the third period.
Granite City was paced by Sprink, who finished with one goal and one assist.
The Lumberjacks forced Twin City goalie Robbiei Goor to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Granite City\’s defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Lumberjacks are averaging 0.9 goals against for the season.
Others who scored for Granite City included Luke Richardson, Tanner Skaja, and Mitchell Gwost, who each put in one. In addition, Granite City received assists from David Kenney and Travis Kothenbeutel, who contributed one each and Zach Voss and Dallas Marvin, who each chipped in two.
The Steel excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.
Twin City was helped by Jake McGlocklin, who grabbed one goal. McGlocklin scored on the power play 1:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jon Plaszcz picked up the assist. Twin City additionally got points from Kyle Wagner, who also registered one goal and one assist. Twin City also got a goal from Jared Erickson as well. More assists for Twin City came via Mathias Ahman and David Becker, who contributed two each.
Granite City\’s Jesse Garcia stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Lumberjacks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Robbiei Goor made 37 saves for the Steel on 41 shots. Twin City incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
