Granite City beats Alexandria 3-1 after comeback scare

The Granite City Lumberjacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Alexandria Blizzard on the way to a 3-1 win.

Granite City made the score 3-0 on a goal by Roy Grandov at 18:57 in the third period, and Alexandria got as close as 3-1 when Nate Mettenburg scored 19:30 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks were paced by Billy Warren, who had one goal. Warren scored 17:53 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Grandov assisted on the tally.

Granite City was held below its usual level of production. The Lumberjacks put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game.

Granite City also got points from Grandov, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Granite City also got a goal from David Kenney as well. More assists for Granite City came via Luke Richardson, Taylor Brown, and Drew Otto, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Alexandria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blizzard average 4.8 goals per game.

Scott Murray rejected 21 shots on goal for Granite City. The Lumberjacks ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Kyle Miller made 25 saves for Alexandria on 27 shots. The Blizzard totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
