The Helena Bighorns pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over Glacier on a clutch goal by Brian Skillicorn.
Helena nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Bighorns made it 2-0 on a goal by Skillicorn at 16:34 in the second period. Glacier pulled to within 2-1 on a goal by Tyler McMahon at 11:26 in the third period.
Skillicorn was all over the ice for Helena, as he registered two goals in the win.
The Bighorns put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Glacier to score on any of its six power plays. Helena did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bighorns average 5.6 goals per game. Team\’s forwards weren\’t the only contributers offensively, and the team\’s defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.
Helena additionally got points from Kendall Bolen-Porter, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Helena came via Nick Trefry, who had two and Matt Mohar and Blake Babineau, who contributed one each.
Glacier excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.
Glacier was helped by Karson Frisk, who grabbed one goal. Frisk scored 19:05 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brendan Jester picked up the assist. Glacier also got points from McMahon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Glacier received assists from Wyatt Fretheim, who had one.
Mac Alboreo made 18 saves for Helena on 20 shots. The Bighorns incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Nolan Slager rejected 25 shots on goal for Glacier. Glacier incurred 44 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Glacier ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Logan Kraft was ejected from the game.
