Flint holds on for 4-3 win against Metro

The Metro Jets tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Flint Junior Generals held on for a 4-3 victory.

Flint made the score 3-1 on a goal by Connor McGovern at 8:42 in the second period, and Metro got as close as 3-2 when Adam Lockner scored 1:43 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, the Jets face elimination next time out.

The Junior Generals were led by Josh Koepplinger, who registered one goal and one assist. Koepplinger scored 6:19 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Flint. Justin Fisher picked up the assist.

Flint\’s offense rang up 31 shots on Metro\’s net.

Flint also got points from Mark McGee, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brett Leppek, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Zach Koonce and Jacob Lainesse, who contributed one each.

The Jets were led by Zach MacKay, who grabbed two goals. MacKay scored the first of his two goals at 51 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Shreve assisted on the tally. MacKay\’s next tally made the score 3-3 with 14:31 left in the third period. Shreve picked up the assist. More assists for Metro came via Alex Holm, who had two and Brad Hepler and Matt Dempsey, who each chipped in one.

The Junior Generals\’ Anders Franke stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Flint incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kameron Limburg recorded 27 saves for Metro. The Jets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
