Empire Penguins Take 2

The Empire Jr B Penguins started a three week home stand with a pair of victories over the New Jersey Wildcats. The Pens got out of the gate quick scoring 4 goals in the first period and they never looked back. Jarrett Ruchka led the Pens scoring with a hat trick. Patrick Schafer notched two goals and Jayson Angus and David Smith each had one. Goaltender Eric Ekberg stopped 30 of 32 shots in the game for his first win of the season. Game two started off much tighter but the Pens managed to climb to a 3-0 lead by the end of two periods on goals by Nico Vecchio, Eddie Blanciak and Jayson Angus. The Penguins let the Wildcats back into the game as they cut the lead to 3-2. But captain Drew Martz shut the door with an empty netter with less than a minute to play. Next weekend the Pens play two games against the New York Coyotes at home.
