Coaches Announced for U16 & U18

For the 12-13 campaign, the U16’s will again be coached by Bob Kennedy.  Bob brings a strong background both as a player and Coach for many years right here in Pittsburgh coaching elite level teams.  Bob’s experience a s a player took him to the Pro level where he played in the ECHL, IHL, AAHL and AHL.  Bob finished his playing days with the Roanoke East Coast League as a Player/Assistant Coach.  Bob was also invited and attended tryouts for US Olympic Team in Lake Placid.

As a Coach here in Pittsburgh, Bob’s coaching experience includes nearly 20 years with Central Catholic, Shadyside Academy, Pine Richland, Bethel Park and West Allegheny.  Bob also coached the Team Pittsburgh in the Chicago Showcase.

Bob’s bio along with all the coaches assigned for the new season, will be updated on the Jr Penguin website under the Jr Penguin Staff tab.

Joining Bob on the bench/ice this year will be Dom Glavach and Brian Morrison.  Dom coached with the Bantam Hybrid team last season for the Amateur Penguins.  Dom has also coached on and off with Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s ACHA Teams as well as the Indiana High School teams at al levels plus with the Indiana Youth teams.  Dom has also coached with the MidState Mustangs and the Indiana Junior Thunder in the Continental Hockey Association.

Brian coached with the Amateur Penguins the last few seasons including the Am Pens AAA 99 Quebec team last year.  Brian also coached and scouted with the Jr A Penguins last season.  His knowledge of their hockey system will be meaningful as the team this as we plan to implement some of those same systems for the U16 and U18 Midget teams this season.

Scott Gallagher will Coach the U18’s this season.  Scott finds himself returning home with the Jr Penguins.  As former Jr Penguin team Captain who led his teams to the only Silver and Bronze Medals at Jr Nationals for any Pittsburgh Area Jr Team.  Scott also achieved a couple Division Titles and two All-Star appearances in his Jr playing days.  Scott finished his playing career at the Minor Pro level with the Pittsburgh Pounders of the CPHL.

In addition to being an elite player and leader on the ice, Scott is Level 4 certified and has coached since 2006 with the Armstrong Arrows Midget U16’s, the Viper Stars Midget U18 AAA and most recently the Kiski Prep Cougars.

Joining the U18’s as an Apprentice Coach will be Dave Thomas.  Dave played several years of youth hockey in the Pittsburgh area and with the Fox Chapel HS program.  He’s coached with both Pine Richland and Shaler in their inline programs and continues to be a premier player with the Steel City Phantoms/Pittsburgh Bandits Elite teams at the Professional level.
