Cleveland hangs on, beats Metro 4-2

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks beat the Metro Jets, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Matt Wipper provided Cleveland with the game-winning tally when he scored 1:23 into the the first period. Mike Palasics provided the assist.

Wipper had a great game for the Jr. Lumberjacks, netting two goals.

Cleveland\’s penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Lumberjacks gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Cleveland stifled Metro\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Others who scored for Cleveland included Brendan Logan and Nick Balavich, who each put in one. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Jared Johnson, who had two and Avery Huibregtse, Stefan Horgas, and Tyler Dalton, who contributed one a piece.

The Jets were helped by Kyle Downey, who registered one goal. Downey scored 9:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cleveland. Cody Jones assisted on the tally. Kyle Shreve also scored for Metro. More assists for Metro came via TJ Krajewski, who had one.

Joseph Moza rejected 17 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Metro\’s Trevor Kalinowski stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Jets ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
