Behind a great game by John Barlow, who had two goals and one assist, the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Southern Tier Xpress, 7-1.
Barlow\’s tallies came on the power play at 12:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cleveland and on the power play 18:16 into the first to make the score 2-0 Cleveland.
Southern Tier was stymied by Cleveland\’s netminder Alec Rounds, who stopped 34 shots during the victory. Rounds managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.69 prior to the game.
The Jr. Lumberjacks\’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Southern Tier power plays. Cleveland kept the Xpress\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Benjamin Sakaria made 33 saves on 40 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Cleveland averages 2.3 goals per game.
Cleveland also got points from Tyler Dalton, who also registered one goal and five assists to lead the team in points, Ryker Barber, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Tyler Houmard, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cleveland included Mitch Renstrom and Adam Schaffer, who each put in one. More assists for Cleveland came via Avery Huibregtse, who had one.
Southern Tier\’s offense operated below its season average. The Xpress put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Lumberjacks were unable to stop Southern Tier from sending pucks towards the net, and the Xpress eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Southern Tier struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 44 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.
Cleveland incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
