AAA U16's kick off the tryouts

The Vengeance kicked off their 2014-15 Prospect AAA U16 Tryouts Last evening.  With 70+ skaters, the staff was very busy evaluating the talent.  The Camp included a suitable balance of Forwards, Defensemen and Goalies.  From the results of last night’s preliminary evaluation, the staff will separate the Forwards and D into four competitive and balanced teams while the goalies will be looked at more extensively this coming Sunday.

After the goalie only evaluation this Sunday, the Teams will be set to scrimmage for next week on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Frank Gribbin, with the Johnstown NAHL Tomahawks and the University of Pittsburgh ACHA D1 program team will work with the U16 Staff to evaluate the Goalies.  Frank played collegiate hockey at Penn State University and was rostered on the 2003 National Championship semi-finalist team.  He was also named Playoff MVP en route to his team's 2002 WPCHA championship.

We’ve also added our last AAA U16 staff member, Jim Pasquine.  Jim is a former player and team Captain with Washington & Jefferson College.   Jim is fresh and ready for the new season after just returning from Green Bay, WI and the USA Hockey Nationals where he helped coach the Pittsburgh Penguin Elite 99 Birth Year team.

For the upcoming 2014-15 Hockey Season, the Pittsburgh Vengeance are working with their Affiliate, the Steel City Ice Renegades to create new opportunities for midget age players to prepare them for entry into the Junior ranks.

In addition to our flagship Jr A team that competes in the NA3HL, the Pittsburgh Vengeance are looking to their own AAA U16 team as Jr Prospects.  The goal is to provide the elite level hockey player in the Pittsburgh area a chance to grow and develop under the guidance of some of the highest level coaching in Western PA including Dave Dorsey, Head Coach of our Jr A Vengeance team.

Our AAA U16 players will be exposed to a fast paced and high intensity level of play against players of like size, strength and skill.

AAA U16 Prospect Team highlights:

  1. Pittsburgh’s only USAH Junior Hockey Program
  2. Fast paced College level practices
  3. Highest level coaching with experience and knowhow to get to next level
  4. Prospect to move on to Junior Hockey
  5. Tier I U16 AAA (AAA League participation)
    1. 50+ Games with scouting exposure
    2. Exposure to Jr A staff for practices
    3. High School friendly
  6. Two practices per week (full and shared ice)
  7. Significant involvement with Pittsburgh Vengeance Coaching staff
  8. Personal Training Staff available
  9. Cost savings

The Vengeance AAA U16 staff will also be working closely with their Affiliate, Steel City Ice Renegade Midget teams who are considered next in line for the Vengeance AAA opportunities.  The Steel City Renegades offer Birth Year teams from the Squirt minor level up through Bantams.   Ultimately, we’d like to see payers have a one-stop place where they can play at the higher level from the Squirt through Jr level without having to move from association to association.

With the opportunities for advancement through our NA3HL Jr A program team, we like to say “STAY HOME AND GO PLACES.”
