Vengeance Secure 2nd Spot in East with Sweep of Xpress

Pittsburgh traveled to Southern Tier looking to improve upon their modest three game winning streak in a building they haven’t had much success in over the years. Dillon Joyce would bang home a rebound from a Perry Shiring shot to put Pittsburgh up 1-0 after one period of play. Austin Martz would score on the power play to put the Vengeance up 2-0 with assists going to Gavin Cummings and Cam Williams early in the second period. Williams would score unassisted less than a minute later and Vincent Casale would strike not long after that to put Pittsburgh up 4-0 with assists going to Cam Smith and Cummings. They would hold onto the 4-0 lead until Southern Tier would add a late goal to make it a 4-1 final in favor of the Vengeance. Joel De Simone would stop 15 out 16 in the net for his third straight victory. “We didn’t play particularly well tonight but we got the job done in some adverse conditions,” said Coach Dorsey.
Pittsburgh would host Southern Tier at the Alpha Ice Complex on Saturday look for the sweep. Pittsburgh and Southern Tier would battle to a scoreless tie after one period of play. Gavin Cummings would score early in the second period of play to put Pittsburgh up 1-0 with assists going to Dom Glavach and Kenny White. The score would remain that way until late in the third period when Austin Martz would score a short handed empty net goal to ice seal a 2-0 Vengeance victory. Joel De Simone would stop all 26 shots he faced for the shutout victory in net for Pittsburgh. “De Simone was great again in goal for us because our defensive zone play was less than desirable,” said Coach Dorsey.
Pittsburgh will travel to Toledo this upcoming weekend to battle the Cherokee for a two game series.
